Fri, 19 Aug 2016 18:34:36 +0000 Our First Impressions Of Frank Ocean’s Visual ‘Endless’

Someone better call this number because we finally found Frank Ocean. The elusive artist seems to be over being a meme of himself, along with the album title Boys Don’t Cry, because last night, we were finally gifted Frank Ocean’s new visual album, Endless. If Endless signifies endless questioning, endless aggravations and endless unfulfilled release dates, then we’d say the […]

Sat, 24 Feb 2018 15:13:54 +0000 Kendrick Lamar’s BRIT Awards Performance Was Muted & Folks Were Mad + Daniel Kaluuya Says Americans Don’t Know About The Black British Experience

 photo kenbrit1.jpg

Kendrick Lamar was heavily censored during his BRIT Awards performance and folks were feeling some type of way. Meanwhile, British actor Daniel Kaluuya says Americans have no idea what goes outside of America. Deets inside…

Kendrick Lamar had Twitter abuzz during his performance at the 2018 BRIT Awards. People watching the awards show via television were not pleased. Why? Apparently, the producers heavily muted his set while performing his track “FEEL” and his feature on Rich The Kid’s “New Freezer.”

According to reports, not only was bad language censored, they also bleeped out his references to “drugs” and “oral sex.” He ended up getting muted a total of 10 times. So, folks were up in arms about why the BRIT Awards even invited him to perform in the first place knowing the origin of his lyrics.

Below are a few more tweets:

By the way, that’s Rich The Kid smashing that luxury Lamborghini sports car during the performance and people weren’t happy about that as well:

"His intention was to make a statement about the emptiness of status symbols and the trappings of fame," said BBC writer Mark Savage. "But, with most viewers unable to hear his lyrics, it came off as 'I'm so rich I can afford to smash up this very expensive car live on TV.'"

What fans didn't know was that the car being smashed was a replica of a Lamborghini Murcielago.

Peep some of his uncensored performance below:

The Compton rapper, who's currently making rounds on TDE's Championship Tour, also won his first ever BRIT Award, nabbing the International Male Solo Artist award. Peep his acceptance speech below:

Speaking of Brtis...

Get Out actor Daniel Kaluuya is ruffling some feathers.

During a panel with the BAFTA Awards Rising Star nominees (which he ended up winning), the 28-year-old actor said Americans have no idea what goes on outside of America when responding to Jordan Peele’s hesitation to cast him in Get Out since he wasn't American.

“Yeah it was a lot of that… I think in America they don’t really know stuff which happens outside of America,” he said. “They don’t know the black British experience, because a lot of people don’t. I think a lot of people in England don’t.”

He continued: “You just have to adopt different perspectives. You just have to see the world different. I was brought up to see the way I live my life isn’t the way everyone else lives their life. So when you see characters you’re able to take on other perspectives and empathize.”

Hmm…do you agree or disagree?

Fri, 23 Feb 2018 23:35:08 +0000 Mo’Nique Confronts Charlamagne (AKA Brother Lenard) Over ‘Donkey Of The Day,’ Explains WHY Folks Say She’s Hard To Work With, Netflix Deal & More

 photo mobreakfastclub.jpg

Mo’Nique stopped by Power 105’s The Breakfast Club to confront radio personality Charlamagne Tha God and the interview was many things. Get the highlights and the full interview inside…

When Mo’Nique went public with her Netflix boycott over, what she calls, racial and gender bias, that triggered Power 105’s Breakfast Club personality Charlamagne Tha God to give his infamous “Donkey of the Day.”

Apparently, that struck a nerve with Mo and she and her husband Sidney Hicks (who called in on the phone) wanted to confront him about it. And that’s exactly what she did. The Almost Christmas star sat down with Charlamagne, DJ Envy and Angela Yee to lay everything about the Netflix deal and more on the table.

First and foremost, Mo was a bit shady with how she addressed Charlamagne calling him by his government name, Lenard. And when she pronounced incorrectly, he corrected her. Ha!

Mo said she was caught off guard that Charlamagne would give her the title of “Donkey of the Day.” She said when she met him at Turner Station in an elevator years ago, she met a young man who was full of humility and respect. So, she wanted to know exactly why he would “spread that poison” about her on the radio.

Charlamagne argued the case that Netflix is looking at it from a number standpoint on whether or not she could bring in a big enough audience. He used Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle as examples as they have gone on tours that sold out and even sold out arenas…recently. However, Mo feels like her resume should speak for itself and being a legend she should receive the same offer if not more than her counterparts.

They went back and forth about the Netflix deal and they both offered up valid points. We get what Charlamagne was saying about the numbers and we also understand where Mo is coming from as a black woman where we always have to work 10 times harder than everyone else and still get peanuts.

Mo bought up comedian George Kelly told her that Charlamagne told him he gave her the “Donkey of the Day” for “radio,” but Charlamagne denied it.

As for the rumors of her being difficult to work with, Angela Yee brought up what former editor-in-chief of EBONY magazine Amy Dubois Barnett wrote on social media about Mo being a “nightmare” to work with when she was shooting for the cover. Mo said the EBONY staff was being arrogant towards her and she’s wasn’t going to allow them to bully her around.

She also explained how she took up for Almost Christmas director David Talbert and producer Will Packer when a white man on the set were referring to David and Will as “boys.” Sidney said Mo isn’t a person to allow people to be disrespected, so she stood up for them and that’s another reason folks claim she’s “difficult” to work with.

She also talked about being blackballed from the industry, why she’s still relevant and more. Towards the end, Mo seems to get heated and ends the interview.

Below is the full interview. It's worth watching the entire clip:

By the way, the interview was pre-recorded and Mo filmed it all on her Periscope. Toward the end of her Periscope, Mo looks at her phone and quietly calls Charlamagne a “puppet.” The clip is no longer on her Periscope.

However, here's a clip of what went down after the interview:
